Not enough people know this play.

I saw this play in previews in Juneau, Alaska and it blew me away. Rapid fire wit, unique treatment of a fascinating historical period. Most people know this time from one perspective or another, but this play turns those perspectives into a full-spectrum prism. I cannot recommend it enough.

A must see!

I had the exceptional opportunity to see this performed recently, in repertory, along with Marlowe's "Dr. Faustus" and Shakespeare's "Hamlet" at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia all in the space of two days. The principal actors of each of the first two productions played his character in "Wittenberg" affording the opportunity to see the same 'personality' across two plays by different authors. I agree with all of the others who have praised this adding only that the pace and wit of each was on a par with the other two -- not faint praise!
I read "Wittenberg" twice before seeing it, which is a practice I follow with each production that I see there, where possible, and I think that preparation always enhances the enjoyment of the performance. The play, as written, has very specific lighting situations and a few other modern staging treatments not possible in the Elizabethan thrust stage and universal lighting of the Blackfriars Playhouse and I was curious going in as to how the play would be adapted. I am constantly amazed at how clever the staging always is over a broad range of material and "Wittenberg" was no exception.
