Ernesto Estrada, Professor and Chair in Complexity Science, University of Strathclyde, UK,Philip Knight, Lecturer in Mathematics, University of Strathclyde, UK

Ernesto Estrada is a Professor in Mathematics at the University of Strathclyde, UK. He is the Chair in Complexity Science since 2008 and the 1964 Chair in Mathematics since 2014. He holds the Wolfson Research Merit Award from the Royal Society and has published more than 160 papers and 10 book chapters. He is the author of The Structure of Complex Networks: Theory and Applications, published by Oxford University Press (OUP) in 2011. Professor Estrada is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Complex Networks published by OUP. His research interests are in the mathematical analysis of networks, the use of physical analogies to study networks and applications of network theory to society, chemistry, biology, ecology and engineering.

Philip Knight is a Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Strathclyde, UK. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Manchester in 1993 and has spent most of his career carrying out research into matrix algebra. His interest in applications drew him inexorably towards network theory and his research interests now centre on the algebraic structure of networks as well as on the use of networks to represent other mathematical structures. More recently, Dr Knight has been involved in teaching courses on network theory in different countries and is well regarded among students for his expository abilities.

It gets you energized but indeed a lot of duplicate content and on a few subject not very thorough

I enjoyed reading this book. It's get's you thinking and it helps you form an idea in your head what kind of jobs you can outsource whether in-house of with a virtual assistant. But definitely not doing yourself. However the subject of how to hire a good VA is lightly touched. It's definitely clear the author much rather have you use his company for that. However if you sell a book it should not be an infomercial. You have whitepapers for that and "free" ebooks. Also not everything is consistent. At one point the author says don't always give money to your VA or he/she gets used to that and further down he says always give cash, cash is king. There is also a lot of repetition in this book especially in the middle and the end. The author promises it's all meat no fluff. Unfortunately that is not the case. Another thing to be aware off this book is so positive about Virtual staff it's almost a fairy tale. Just hire the correct VA - use for that of course the author's hiring company - pay your VA on time and all is good in the world. If you do it on your own prepare yourself for trouble but if done correctly the skies are blue. However reading comments from actual companies that hire VA's there are a lot of issues with virtual staff. But in the book there is not much space for that. Also taxes in untouched. It would at least been nice to give a clear overview of general tax consequences for main markets. The EU has one tax law, the US is another big market or Australia. Do those tax authorities see overseas VA's as staff, can you file them as costs in your books. Basic questions but not answered in this book.

If you are like I was for so long and putting off the idea of building a virtual team let this be your wake up call.

What makes this book extra special is not only is it a good guide for someone starting out, but even for those who have been managing some or all of their team online Virtual Freedom will show you how to take that to the next level. There were several tips I picked up even after several months of working with a virtual assistant.

The format of this book is super simple to read with bullet points and headings. And examples! Every section has an example of someone putting the strategies into practice.

Even without a virtual team on a full time or regular basis this book will help you hire and manage for one off projects, and even improve your own productivity.

The biggest surprise in the book was the final section about content creation. Not too concerned about giving yourself more free time? Then you should still hire a virtual staff so that you can have more time to create content and continue to grow. Your impact and meaning as a business should never be limited by what you alone can do.

I'm Getting So Much More Done!

In full disclosure, Chris and I are extremely good friends. Best friends in fact. But, he also knows that I'm always completely honest with him about what he's doing, and he's always been the same with me. Friendship aside, this review completely reflects the information in this book, which is spot on. I've suffered from Superhero Syndrome for the longest time, and after meeting Chris a few years back and being introduced to virtual staff, it has completely changed how I've been able to get things done. I'm getting more done, in less time, and although my team has allowed me to spend more time doing the bigger thinking in my business, which is what all entrepreneurs should be doing (not the repetitive day-to-day stuff that can be handed off, which is what I was doing myself), but I've been able to spend more time with my kids at home while also watching my business grow. I've been able to focus on only what I need to focus on, and having my business work for me, instead of me working for my business.

I've read the book and everything I learned from Chris these past few years is in here, plus a lot more. I highly recommend it. Thanks Chris for being a great friend, but for also helping others see the power in letting go of certain parts of your business - something, like I said, I struggled with for the longest time.

Books like this are exactly why I originally started reading young adult literature.

So totally thrilled that I just read a book released by a national young adult publisher that is sweet, romantic and totally squeaky clean! Books like this are exactly why I originally started reading young adult literature.

I love when an author can tell a great story without including language, innuendo or sex. Kudos to Kasie West for doing just that.

In a day and age where publishers are all too often refusing to publish books without added language and sexual content I appreciate the fact that Harper Teen published this book without any of that unnecessary content.

On the Fence was a lot of fun to read. I love the interaction between Charlie and her brothers. And of course couldn't help but love her fourth "brother" Braden. This is a coming of age story where we get to see Charlie have her first kiss, wear make up for the first time and come to terms with a past she has been running from. Laugh out loud funny I had no hesitation handing this to my teenage daughter as soon as I finished it. She is only a couple chapters in and already loving it. While the ultimate outcome might be predictable the road to getting there had enough twists and turns to keep me engaged and wondering how it was all going to play out.
If you enjoy friends to lovers stories that focus on the innocence of young love where a simple touch, wink or smile are enough to set a young girl's heart a-fluttering then you will enjoy this. If you prefer innuendo, crude thoughts and comments and characters who just want to jump between the sheets then this won't be for you.

This is exactly my kind of book!

Nothing Bad To Say About This One

There is literally nothing negative I can say about this book. I read it several months ago when I was at a low-point in college and this was the perfect pick-me-up. Kasie West is a genius when it comes to cute, fun, and hilarious contemporaries. I cannot wait to see what amazing masterpiece she gifts us with next.

One of the best things about this book is the family dynamic. Unfortunately, Charlie lost her mother at a very young age, so she is raised primarily by her father and three older brothers. Really there's four if you count their next-door neighbor, Braden, who is practically family. I loved Charlie's father because he really did care for her, even if he had trouble relating to his only daughter at times. And the banter among her and her brothers was absolute perfection. All they wanted to do was protect their little sister, even if they had funny ways of showing that at times. This is a family dynamic that is so incredibly it is comparable to the Garrett family from MY LIFE NEXT DOOR by Huntley Fitzpatrick.

Seriously, the characterization of all her family members is spot on. Heck, all of the characterization in this book is spot on. I can't say one negative thing. Even characters who I thought I wouldn't like found a way to get on my good side, secondary characters included. If there's one thing that West will never fail to deliver, it's a diverse cast of characters that's easy to love.

Charlie is pretty awesome. Because she was the only girl in her family, she grew up as a huge tomboy. She loves to be one of the guys, really, which is why it's so strange when her new summer job inadvertently introduces her to feminine things like fashion and make-up and giggling over cute boys who she'd typically demolish at sports. Her journey to being comfortable with her feminine side, something she never explored because of the fact that there was no feminine authority figure in her life, was really sweet. All of it started at the hands of an unlikely ally and friend who I adore as well. Despite feeling like a fraud initially and experiencing many insecurities because of this, Charlie slowly embraces the unknown to realize that she can be feminine and get down with the guys all at once. All she has to do is be herself!

Then, of course, there is the romance. This is an absolutely adorable love story and I wouldn't change a thing. The love bug pinched Charlie unexpectedly, but that's what makes it all the more real. The story is charming and full of surprising depth in regards to her journey of self-discovery. And this love story is so unique. I'd go as far as to say that this match was simply fated. I couldn't imagine either of these characters being with anyone else because they were literally made for each other.

This book has no flaws. It's perfect for romance lovers and those who love banter. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you momentarily serious, but most of all, it'll make you smile and swoon. What more could you ask for? Kasie West delivers a perfect summer read that'll leave you begging to get your hands on more of her amazing contemporaries.

Can I date Charlie's Brothers? Like seriously.

This book needs to turn into a film! Oh my gosh, oh how I wish I was Charlie. I was laughing my butt off so hard, and holy crap I just want three hot brothers and a hot neighbor. Okay, so maybe that's a little weird (especially the hot brothers), but I'm telling you, you'll understand when you read this.
Charlie (Charlotte) is a tomboy who's not your typical girl. She dreads makeup, would wear sneakers over heels anyday, and wears athletic clothes all the time. She's great at sports, and would kick your ass anytime playing. When she crosses the line with all the speeding tickets she gets, she has to work at some chic boutique to pay off her debt. The thing is, it changes her. She starts wearing... makeup (ohmigod) and actually dresses nice! It's not like her at all. Along the way, she develops feelings for Braden. She's seriously devoted to just staying friends, because anymore than that and it could ruin them for good. She just can't help it.
She doesn't know how to act properly to everything. Her mother died when she was a young child, so her dad and her three- well, four- brothers were the only people to help.
This book was freaking amazing. It's the perfect light summer romance read. It's so romantic in a quirky way, and I laughed way too much at some parts. It's just like a sad romantic comedy book.
The guys in this book are sooooo dreamy. Especially Braden. Oh yes, you will want Braden. He's strong, cute, athletic, and caring. Charlie's brothers are the same, but if you're a guy and you hit on Charlie even the teeniest bit, you're going down. They won't hesitate to punch you. I just can't get enough of her brothers. They're so geeky and cute.
I loved the characters. Especially the realness of her brothers. They were playful and fun when they had to be, and protective/ big brothery when they had to be. And her father acted like how a father would at times where he was raising a daughter by himself. The characterization was perfect.
There was not one negative aspect of this book. It was written so smoothly, and I didn't get bored. Even during parts where I usually would skim, I made myself not. The author didn't overwrite any descriptive parts.
Referring to my statement earlier, I seriously want to be Charlie. I also don't, but for the most part do. She's tall (5'11), athletic, pretty, strong, and charismatic. She just has many struggles in her life when she falls for Braden, dates the wrong guy, finds out the real truth, and becomes an entirely different person. Charlie is in a war with her enemy being herself. Only one side of her can win. I just adored her personality overall, despite any lashing out.

West has written an amazing summer read. She had me saying

-I CAN'T EVENNNNNN OH MY GOD THESE FEELINGS ARE JUST HOLY CRAP HE'S SO SWEET AND D'AWWW
It's such an adorable love story that you won't be able to put down. I would know, I read it twice! It's intriguing enough to make you want to devour the whole thing in a day if you're just that interested (which you will be). The ending seems like a HEA, but I know that she's just trying to live off the pain.
Buy this if you want a quirky, cute, and sweet guys. It has just a right amount of all. This is her third book, and three is a charm :) She hit the nail right on the head with this book. I cannot wait to read more of her amazing contemporaries.

Book is very good starting point for ASIC backend engineers - with good and short introduction and than right on to the target.
However there is no substitute for practice so after reading the book , my advice is to jump start to some simple to medium complex projects.

This is a good intro - like the title says these are the essentials. This is a great overview of methodology, but the real secrets to success in physical design are knowing how to write and debug scripts, especially perl, unix, c-shell.

Live To Read

Meaney wrote a book that had me laughing from cover to cover. The plot focuses on the effects of a "boy recession" at a high school. When 12% of the boys leave the school, the remaining guys find that they are now in high demand. Boys who never played a sport before are on the football team and guys who could never hope for a date find that they are surrounded by desperate girls. This book is told from two perspectives, the first is Hunter. At first, he is unaffected by the exodus of the guys from his school. Hunter is a brilliant slacker who doesn't put much effort into anything he does. This changes after being yelled at by a high school advisor and meeting Kelly, the second narrator of this book. Kelly is sweet, nice, and musically gifted. She finds herself drawn to Hunter, she likes his easy-going personality. As the two grow closer, the problems that come with a boy recession begin to interfere with their friendship.
The Boy Recession is perfect for young adult and teenage readers. Meaney's writing is humorous and creative. All the characters stand out and are memorable. I can't wait to read Meaney's next book and I give this novel five out of five stars.

Not for younger readers

I am writing astute parent of a middle school age girl. I was pre-reading before giving offering this book to my daughter; I did not get past chapter 4. By that point, I had encountered enough uses of the "f" word, references to pot smoking and masturbation, that I decided this book would have to wait a few years. The premise is interesting, but the writing is uninspired. Read at your own risk!

SO funny and entertaining!

First Impressions: I really liked Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney, so when I realized that The Boy Recession was written by her I was stoked! This book just sounded like such a fun read, plain and simple. I like how the cover art reflects what the book is about in a very creative way.

First 50 Pages: This isn't a terribly long book and I read it in its entirety in just a couple of hours. It would be perfect for someone who is trying to squeeze in a book or two before going back to school (which is why I decided to read it when I did) because it's so short and so enjoyable. There isn't really anything deep or heavy about The Boy Recession. From the beginning to the end, it's just a lot of fluff and the humor is awesome. I laughed so many times while reading this story. It's the kind of book that you want to pick up if you are feeling down because you won't be able to stop laughing. I thought that the author did a really nice job setting her scenes and giving each of her characters distinct voices.

Characters & Plot: The book synopsis that was provided by the publisher basically gives away most of the plot. The story follows Kelly and Hunter who each give their own perspective of the literal boy recession that is occurring at their high school. The points of view from each character are really well done and they seemed to go well together. Sometimes when you have more than one point of view in books the writing seems choppy, but that wasn't the case here. Kelly and Hunter are friends, but I believe they were both secretly (and maybe unknowingly) attracted to each other before the shortage of boys hit their school.

The girls that go to their school are going bonkers and the recession brings out the worst in most of them. The book is full of drama llamas and silly high school chit-chat, bitchy teenagers, and girls that would do just about everything to make sure they have dates to prom. Of course, the guys love this; even the lesser known guys are getting a ton of attention. It's like every teenage boy's dream, to have a bunch of girls fighting over them.

Except Hunter. He is a low-key sort of dude and prefers to hang out under the radar. He's a stereotypical slacker type that doesn't have a lot of drive. When the recession hits, the girls start to take notice of him and he is considered one of the more appealing slacker kids.

Kelly is just your average teenage girl. She isn't popular, but she isn't a loner type either. She is Hunter's friend, but she begins to realize that she has feelings for Hunter. The only problem? She has to compete with a zillion other girls who think they are into Hunter as well.

Of course, Kelly and Hunter form a relationship (finally) and it is really sweet and cute. Their relationship is very simple and it's not overly done. Like the rest of the novel, it's all fluff and fun. It's romantic and very cheesy, just the way I like it!

Final Thoughts: This is a wonderful book to kick back with and relax. It's totally cheesy, but cheesy can be awesome! If you ever wondered what it would be like if boys suddenly became a hot commodity, then this is the book for you. I definitely think that The Boy Recession is going to appeal to girls between the ages of 14-17 and maybe a little older. Most of the time I think that many YA titles have cross-over appeal, but I'm not too sure about this one. So if you are older, you might want to skip this one over.
